Lately there have been rumors circulating that Frederick Acheampong, also known as Fred Achee, will be appointed as the next CEO of the Ghanaian football club Asante Kotoko. A former board member of the club has hinted at this imminent appointment to Ghana Sports Online.
However, Achee himself has denied these reports, stating that he has not discussed any potential appointment with his friends. In a previous interview with Kumasi-based Oyerepa FM, Achee had described the Kotoko CEO job as one of the biggest football positions in the world. Only time will tell if these rumors are true and if Achee will indeed take on this prestigious role.
Manhyia, the seat of the authority at the club, has dissolved the Board of the club and the management led by Nana Yaw Amponsah.
According to Kwame Aboagye Mensah, personal assistant to Kofi Badu, the Chief of Staff of Manhyia, the board and management of Accra-based Asempa FM have been dissolved. This news comes after Ghana Sports Online sources revealed that a former Kotoko board member has been actively lobbying for the role to be given to Achee, who was previously forced to resign from his position at AshantiGold in April 2020.
Achee, a former broadcast journalist, has faced disappointment in the past, having failed twice as chairman of Ghana’s U23 side. His inability to qualify Ghana for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games and the Paris 2024 Games has raised questions about his capability to lead in this new role.
