University of Education Mampong Campus

The Mampong Campus of the University of Education, Winneba hosts the College of Agriculture Education. It is located 51 kilometres to the north-east of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.

The University is now known as the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAM-USTED). President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo signed the university’s bill into law on August 27, 2020.

The acting Vice-Chancellor of University of Education Mampong Cammpus also known as AAMUSTED is Prof. Frederick K. Sarfo.

Faculty of Agriculture Education

The Faculty of Agriculture Education of the University of Education, Winneba is located at Asante Mampong. It is made up of five Departments:

Department of Animal Science Education

The Department of Animal Science Education is engaged in the production and management of poultry, cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, grasscutters and snails for teaching and research purposes. The Department is also involved in projects that train farmers in animal husbandry and monitor their performance in its catchment areas.

Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension Education
The Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension Education currently focuses on core areas of agricultural economics and extension in teaching and research. The Department handles core and elective courses that seek to develop students’ analytical and technical skills to inform optimal socio-economic decisions, research works and effective dissemination of research findings and agricultural technologies to farmers and other agribusiness.

Department of Agricultural Engineering and Mechanization Education
The Department is capable of carrying out many agricultural engineering activities such as: Designing and fabrication of agricultural equipment such as maize sheller, cassava grater, cassava dough press and vegetable blender (mill) Servicing of agricultural machinery. Construction of farm structures. Construction of metal furniture and gate.

Department of Crop and Soil Science Education
The overall goal of the Department of Crop and Soil Sciences Education is to grow to become highly reputable both locally and internationally, for handling teacher education programmes in Crop and Soil Sciences through the core activities such as teaching, research, dissemination of relevant knowledge and agricultural technologies to students and farmers most especially those in the transitional zone of Ghana.

Again, ensuring food security and promoting agro-industrial development and growth of the University and the Nation at large.

Department of Interdisciplinary Studies
The Department of Interdisciplinary Studies is one of the departments that serve the Faculty of Agriculture Education, and the Faculty of Science and Environmental Education at the College of Agriculture Education.

The main objective of the Department is the inculcation of the professional skills of the teacher for all the four programmes of the College namely; Agriculture, Integrated Science, Environmental Health and Sanitation Education, and Biological sciences.

Faculty of Science and Environment Education

The Faculty of Science and Environment Education is located at Asante-Mampong. The Faculty has two Departments:

The Department of Science Education

The Department shall become one of the best recognized departments within and outside the country for efficient teaching of programmes in Sciences.

This department shall conduct research, disseminate relevant knowledge and influence educational policies in the Sciences.

The Department of Environmental Health and Sanitation Education
The History and Vision of the Department of Environmental Health and Sanitation Education was coined out of the Department of Integrated Science Education in 2010. Prior to its formation, its programmes were run under the Department of Science Education.

Its formation was necessitated by the need to train competent graduates for Ghana’s water, sanitation and hygiene sectors in order to boost the capacity of the personnel in the Environmental Health and Sanitation sector. Since its formation, interest in the programmes run by the department has increased tremendously over the years.

To be an internationally acclaimed centre of excellence for skills development and dissemination of knowledge in Environmental Health and Sanitation.

Mission

To conduct research, disseminate knowledge, develop skills and influence national policies in the area of Environmental Health and Sanitation
